A Life in Tech, Building and Keeping Things Running.

I’m Kenny, and I’ve spent my career helping people use technology, and building and maintaining the systems behind it. That path took me from Adobe’s support desk to RealNetworks, then to building and running the entire backend stack of BBC iPlayer, and on to Edgecast, a global CDN and streaming platform. These days, I’m focused on hands-on ML/AI projects, building and running AI locally.

A little about how I got here ↓

Career log

the early years → 2026

It started with a Commodore 64 in Germany, where I was born and grew up. A blue screen and blinking cursor was enough to spark a lifelong interest in technology. Fast-forward roughly 20 years.

After arriving in Scotland, I started in customer support, then moved into Adobe’s video support team, where I supported customers in their use of products like Premiere Pro, After Effects and Audition. Along the way, I became an Adobe-certified expert.

As part of the professional services team, I worked with customers to deploy the RealNetworks Helix Server in their on- or off-prem sites. It took me from helping people use video software to helping them deliver and broadcast video itself.

Siemens, later acquired by Atos IT, was contracted to provide IT services to the BBC. As part of that work, I helped build BBC iPlayer from its earliest iterations, then deployed, upgraded and operationally supported the platform as it grew. After a final major upgrade for the 2012 Olympics, I moved on to Edgecast.

At Edgecast, a global content delivery network, I continued working in operations, with a focus on both HTTP and streaming delivery. Through various mergers, acquisitions and name changes, the work stayed familiar: solving problems and keeping things running.

An internal move into the Uplynk business unit brought back a direct focus on streaming, where I continued building, maintaining and operationally supporting the systems behind it through into 2026.

Experience

Twenty-plus years across support, operations and engineering means the tooling has turned over several times: version control, CI/CD, monitoring, ticketing, and on-prem to cloud. The tools change; the questions don’t. Is it working, and if not, why not?

Delivery: source control, build pipelines, CI/CD, releases.

Operations: global infrastructure, on-prem to cloud, incident response, on-call.

Observability: metrics, logging, alerting, tracing, in-house and third-party.

Support & process: ticketing, documentation, customer-facing troubleshooting.

Exploring AI

My connection to video/broadcast is through technology rather than creating content. Streaming is the niche my career grew into, and what’s kept me here is the interest in technology, the ever-evolving landscape, and the opportunity to build and maintain large-scale global platforms.

I’ve always loved technology and building things. AI and machine learning is where I’ve been directing my curiosity since 2021/22.
